Song for KB "silence".
Aug. 20th, 2013 02:33 pmThis is an audience participation song.
It is played by turning off the volume on your computer, on your phone, on whatever extraneously might be making noise. Turn off all those devices, cease to speak, and listen.
Like John Cage's 4'33" and many other works before this song, this song is about what is around you. Birds chirping may be the melody, someone else's footsteps may provide the rhythm. Even what we view as 'silence' is never truly still and silent.
Please continue to keep the volume off on your devices for at least twenty seconds (the minimum size for a song entry) - but do not feel obligated to turn them back on after that time has passed. If you like, keep the sound off for the whole day. Those of you who put music on for background noise as you go about your business may find it strange or uncomfortable, but gradually you will adjust to 'silence'.
And when you do turn on your sounds again - be sure to listen.
