100 Smutfic Recs: "Eightfold" and "Got You"
Welcome to the first part of my 100 things challenge! For the opening, I decided I'd recommend two similar fics: Eightfold by White Aster and Got You by Laylah. Both of them are Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner fics, and both of them are Raja Naga/Raidou.
Eightfold is, like the name sounds, divided into eight parts, going from the beginning of the fusion to picking Raja Naga for the final battle. (I have no more idea what the final battle is than I did before I read this fic. Any spoilers are pretty vague.) It's a relatively short fic at about 1,900 words, and it's an excellent piece in conservation of words. Especially for Raidou, who in both this and Got You has no dialogue, the effect seems to fit him perfectly.
The smut is in only one of the eight sections, but it's a great bit of work. Even in the middle of xeno kinky sex, there are still touches to Raidou's personality - his fighter instinct, the deadpan 'are you serious' look - that keep it from being any other person in the middle of some wonderful xeno kinky sex. I really like xeno kink as a rule, but characterization makes everything better.
Got You is longer at about 2,600 words, and it has two short sections before the main sex scene. They're excellent set-up, showing the reliability and trustworthiness of (some of) Raidou's demons and Raja Naga's voice.
The beginning of the scene with the dream that rang of a mix between 'this is hot' and 'um this is kind of creepy' for me is worth a mention. Then we get into xeno-kink, Raidou's concerns over having sex with a demon not being normal rather than just going into it headlong, little touches like having to be quiet even if his demons happen to be invisible, some really hot sex, and just some well-written prose all around. It's a great scene, it's some really great xeno kink, it works for the characters and it's a fic worthy of recommendation.
