100 Smutfic Recs: "Mana Restoration" and "One From the Vaults"
Today we're looking at Mana Restoration by purplekitte and One From the Vaults by Mithrigil. Both of these are Fate/Zero fics; Mana Restoration is an ensemble Master/Servant fic while One From the Vaults is Gilgamesh/Kotomine.
Mana Restoration is amazing in that it gets every Master/Servant relationship in a short piece (the whole thing is less than a thousand words). The brevity serves it well as an ensemble fic, getting to the point while still being so eloquent that I had a hard time figuring out what to put in the cut text.
Of the sections, I'm not sure which is my favorite. I have a fondness for Rider/Waver and Caster/Ryuunosuke out of personal preference, of course, but the Tokiomi and Gilgamesh section is perfectly composed, and Kotomine and Assassin's part is a great finisher.
And, of course, there's "Lancer closed his eyes and thought of Ireland." I cannot dislike a fic that has that line.
One From the Vaults is not what I would usually look for in a smutfic, that being the actual act of sex. It is, however, an extremely hot and sexy fic about Kotomine's repression of what he wants ('suffering' and 'sex' are mixed and intertwined here). Gilgamesh is perfectly at ease and in character here, and you can feel Kotomine slipping and discomforted here.
Gorgeous fic, perfectly done ideological seduction. It's hot and heavy long before the hands start going in pants. And even though it doesn't end in sex, you know that's not going to be the end of it.
